wingsofgossamer: I Choose Archery by *GossamerWing So, the amazing artist teensophie-draws made this awesome picture of Tooth (from Rise of the Guardians) and Rapunzel (from Tangled), but with Rapunzel depicted as a feathered fairy as well! (You can see the picture here if you’re interested.) I was SO inspired by it that I decided to do draw Merida, Astrid, and (my version of) Rapunzel as feathered fairies as well! I’m still working on Astrid and Rapunzel, but here’s Merida!I tried to pull colors from Merida’s own wardrobe and physical appearance to create her feather color palette. The darker blues are a nod to her regular/archery dress that she wears throughout most of Brave. The paler blue is an homage to her fancier princess dress that she wore during the “presentation of the suitors” scene as well as during the Highland Games portion of the movie. The oranges, golds, and reds (obviously) are a throwback to her fabulous, fiery red hair. I tried to study at pictures of how Tooth’s feathers are designed to look, and then alter them slightly to fit Merida a bit better. For instance, I tried to make the crowning feathers at the top of her hair more fluffed out and disordered than Tooth’s, since Merida’s hair is so unruly and goes every which way.
